These AIR FRYER STEAK KABOBS cook in under 10 minutes! The combo of the veggies and marinated steak bites comes out of the air fryer cooked absolutely perfect!
Steak kabobs are a favorite in our house. The kids love to help make them and everyone loves to help eat them.
Tender, juicy steak threaded on a stick with an array of veggies…these are fun and eye-catching and just downright delicious.
In the past, we've always grilled our steak kabobs, but then I started side eyeing the air fryer. After all…that thing can do anything. 😉
This versatile kitchen appliance is very capable of this recipe. With the high volume super heated air, you get the toasty bits around the edge and your food doesn't dry out. You could even get away with making these kabobs without the skewer, if you just wanted to scoop out all of the loose ingredients.
Either way, when you cook these in the air fryer you will get steak that is tender, and juicy every time.
Ingredient Notes:
Beef – We like sirloin…more on that below.
Veggies – We're using a mixture of green bell peppers, mushrooms, and red onion. Feel free to leave out what you don't like or experiment with something else.
Marinade – This is a simple marinade made Worcestershire, oil, garlic, and plenty of seasonings.
How to:
Chop – Cube up the steak into 1-inch cubes.
Marinate – Mix together all of the ingredients for the marinade in a large bowl and then add the cubes of steak and stir well to coat the steak in all that flavor. Let this set for at least 30 minutes and up to 12 hours. As always, the longer it marinates, the more flavor you'll get.
Veggies – Drizzle the chopped vegetables with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
Skewer – Thread the meat and veggies on to wooden skewers. Feel free to alternate however you'd like. If you have picky kids, make kabobs with only their preferred bits to keep life easy.
Cook – Preheat your air fryer and then load these in. You'll want to work in a single layer. Cook these for 8 minutes for medium and 12 minutes for well done.
How to pick the best steak for kabobs:
First of all, nearly any steak will work. If you already have some steak and you aren't sure how you want to serve it, it'll be great in kabobs!
That said, we like sirloin for kabobs for several reasons.
Tender – The main reason is that it is already a pretty tender cut of meat. As a result we can get by with marinating the steak for only 30 minutes instead of something like 12 hours. We also don't have to tenderize the steak if we start with sirloin.
Lean – Sirloin is a fairly lean steak. In our family, we don't enjoy the gristle or fat in our steak as we don't enjoy the texture. This would be especially true if mixed in with vegetables.
Budget-friendly – Sirloin tends to be more economical than many other choices, which is always a bonus!
Hacks and substitutions:
Feel free to change the vegetables to your taste. Many people avoid mushrooms, but I like them in mine. I would recommend zucchini, squash, or cherry tomatoes as good additions or substitutes.
If you want to start cooking these immediately when you get home from work, go ahead and marinate up to 12 hours in advance and skewer up to 12 hours in advance. Leave them covered in the fridge until you're ready to cook. Doing it like that will have you eating a delicious meal within 10 minutes of walking in the door!
FAQ's:
How do I know when steak kabobs are done?
Use a meat thermometer to test the temperature of the steak. 140 degrees for medium and 155 for well done.
Should I tenderize the steak before marinating?
No. The vinegar in the marinade will do the work for you, creating a tender and seasoned piece of meat.
Can I reheat the leftovers? How should I reheat them?
I almost always reheat leftovers in the air fryer. They will reheat at 300 degrees F in about 5 minutes. You can also use the microwave, of course!
